Islands in Thailand. Jet-Ski Safari and Diving in Koh Tao

Welcome to my next adventure in Thailand. Here, I am going to share:

How to get cheap jet ski safari?

How did I get my PADI license in not so popular, but amazing spot?

How it was my diving around Koh Tao!

Phi Phi islands – a cool eco stop?

Why Maya Bay (The Beach) is not a must visit?

Pour your glass of a drink and let’s get on it!

How to get cheap jet ski safari?
Most of you know how expensive is to rent a jet ski even for 15 minutes. I rented mine really cheap (honestly I don’t remember the exact price … ~100$) for 4 hours 2 persons + snorkeling +  a guide included in a separate jet ski. The secret is to go off season and to negotiate. They are very willing to do it, as there is not so many customers at that time. Tip: Get goggles while driving, the water there is quite salty and could damage your eyes while driving. The plans were to go around 10 islands, stop on some of them, do snorkeling. On one – Matsumi island we stopped for a rest there. I tried the best young coconut in my life, really soft, tasty and juicy! Below are some photos from this amazing half day. Tip: Put lots of suns cream as the sun in Thailand in general is very strong. I was lucky to be a bit cloudy, so I couldn’t burn 🙂

How did I get my PADI license in not so popular, but amazing spot?

After long consideration I’ve decided with a friend of mine to do a Scuba Diving course in Similian Islands! Some of you may not know it, but the water there was the clearest I’ve ever seen and with so rich wild life! I may recommend you the company Khao Lak Explorer -> in Khao Lak city. https://www.khaolakexplorer.com/  I choose 3 days diving course in Khao Lak, Similian Islands and Koh Bon.
I will be honest that’s not the cheapest offer in Thailand. In Koh Tao I found cheaper options, but not sure how’s the quality of the course, it might be good as well, but the water and the wild life around Similian Islands are quite better.

So, the first day was a training in the pool and previously it’s good to get the theory online by yourself.

I wasn’t so comfortable with equalizing the ears, but with a bit of meditation (a few months before that I started meditating and I must admit, I would recommend it to everyone!) before that and with trainings I mastered it. That first day was very exhausting, many hours in the pool, doing different techniques. The next 2 days in open sea, was the big deal. On that boat we slept 1 night and we did divings in the evening and in the morning. In that way you could see different wild life. I was happy to see a big Manta Ray. I want to mention and the food there was very tasty and good quality. It was like a dream, all day diving, eating around islands in Thailand!

That were amazing very well spent 3 days of my life. Now let’s move on to my next diving where I already have my license.

How was my diving around Koh Tao?!

Koh Tao is an island full of youngsters and diving courses everywhere on good prices.

As I mentioned before the water around Koh Tao, wasn’t so clear as in Similian Islands, but at least I had my camera and I could take underwater photos, which now I can share with you!

Here on my divings, I could go just with a diving buddy, not with an instructor. Here I just saw the shadow of a whale shark, which I so much wanted to see! 🙁

Phi Phi islands – a cool eco stop?

Well, Phi Phi islands are ones of the most popular in Thailand, but you should see them at least for a couple of days.

Why are they eco for me? There is no roads for cars, motorbikes and etc. You just walk! I didn’t check that earlier (I know, I should) and I was quite surprised 🙂 The only transport there were the boats around the island and a few tuk-tuks as an ambulances in case of a need! It wasn’t easy with heavy backpacks in that heat, but I liked it! So, once you get there be prepared!

There are parties all along the island,so if you are around the bay get yourself ready for a party noise 😛 If you want to have more quiet spot, you should go up to the jungle, which is in the north part of the island. To go there you can walk may be 40-50 min or get a taxi-boat.

Tip: Usually that nice spot is pretty crowded, so if you want to be let alone and make nice photos go there before 7am. There is 20/25 min walking included from the center let’s say.

Why Maya Bay is not a must visit?

You may know or you may not, but Maya Bay became very very famous because of the american movie “The Beach”. Now everyone wants to go there and enjoy it. So did I, but you couldn’t enjoy it when there is so many people and boats on the beach and around. Anyway, every cruise from Phi Phi includes Maya Bay so you will probably go, but don’t expect much! I can’t say its not nice and don’t go there, just if you miss it, you won’t miss much 😉

Tip: on a moon light you could see the plankton in the water, just have your goggles. Shake your hands in the water and you will see it. It’s amazing!

Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoyed my short story about some of the islands which I visited in Thailand!

See you later 🙂
